Hundreds of workers of the Environmental Protection Agency in Kaduna State on Wednesday staged a protest over non-payment of their salaries.
In an effort to call on the state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai to pay attention to their plights, the refuse collectors blocked the road in front of a bank in the Barnawa area of the state with refuse.
The move caused a major traffic gridlock for both pedestrians and motorists in Kaduna South local government area of Kaduna State.
According to assistant Youth leader, Barnawa ward 2, Mr. Bala Onaja, the refuse collectors have not been paid salaries by their employer for the past five months.
He explained that in June this year, the state government handed them over to a private company, stressing that they were only paid for two months and that out of the two months paid, not all of them benefited from the payment.
