YOU LIKE FREE THINGS! Netizens blast Toke Makinwa for saying chivalry is having bills paid by men
On-air personality, Toke Makinwa, has come under heavy criticisms for saying chivalry is having bills paid by men.
The On Becoming author said that Chivalry is not dead, adding that Nigerian men deserve some accolades.
She took to her Twitter page and wrote,
“Chivalry is not dead, at least not in Nigeria, shoutout to the real men. I can’t even lie y’all need accolades.
“I stopped counting, each time I’m out and I ask for my bill, someone has paid it. Cheers.”
The chivalry conversation was ignited by author Chimamanda Adichie who said she doesn’t fancy the idea of men getting the door for women.
Adichie had said,
“I’m quite happy for people to hold the door for me. But I hope they’re not doing it because of this sort of idea of chivalry.
“Because chivalry is really about the idea that women are somehow weak and need protecting.”
However, Toke Makinwa’s assertions was met with a wave of criticism, with many scolding her for lacking an understanding of chivalry.
See some comments:
Please, I’m very confused, how is this chivalry? And are you saying you don’t know the reason why you get your bills paid is because you’re a celeb? Some of these mfers can be beating their wives at home! So what are you saying?

Your celebrity/popularity aside, people paying your bill is chivalry? Men are real because they pay your bills each time you’re out? This is your definition of chivalry?

Toke makinwa used feminist narratives 2 sell her book”on becoming”even though it was crude feminism. Lol, she used a movement 4 commercial ends. Stories of strong, resilient women sell and she tapped into that industry.

Most people certainly do not think before they respond to tweets , they are either blinded by emotional feministic outbursts or something else I can’t even describe pic.twitter.com/sQHUjaaAUe

Getting free food because you’re a celebrity isn’t “Chivalry”… It’s getting free food because you’re a celebrity ???

Chivalry is someone paying your bills for you? lmfao. Why do Nigerian men now get so angry when women want them to be banks? Are they not ‘chivalrous’? Guys, pick a side. And I think it’s weird that you let this happen repeatedly. Maybe once or twice but everytime?
— Chinyerem Barbara Chiwike (@CB_Chiwike) June 17, 2018

Women are their own worst enemy. Always tearing themselves apart while the same (overrated) men get to share the spoils of their infighting. Receive sense!
