Xenophobia: Twitter reacts as YCee drags SA rapper AKA over ‘hatred’ for Nigerians
Nigerian rapper Oludemilade Alejo, popularly known as YCee, excited Nigerians on social media today (Tuesday) over his stand on the latest xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
The rapper had taken to his verified Twitter handle @iam_YCee to post a series of tweets condemning the attacks and also lambasting South Africans over their perceived hatred for Nigerians.
His tweets caught the attention of South African rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes popularly known as AKA, who faulted Ycee’s position and the duo engaged in an exchange of words which has earned the Nigerian rapper accolades from Nigerian Twitterati.
Ycee had tweeted:
“I don’t rate South African men at this point … and I’m not trying to create any form of animosity between us and them (that they don’t already feel against us) It is really sad that In 2019 Xenophobia is what we are still facing and discussing as a problem
“There is this subtle dislike that a lot of them (If not all) feel towards Nigerians and no matter how hard they try to hide it .. it eventually jumps out – like when AKA had a full childish grown man tantrum when they lost to Nigeria in the nations cup
“Worst part of this thing is South Africans (or any other foreign nationals) will never feel unsafe in Nigeria. We even treat foreigners better than we treat ourselves, which I believe needs to change. The rest of the world doesn’t respect us Cos we don’t respect ourselves
“Our government needs to do a whole lot better and treat this matter with urgency, the same urgency we used to fight apartheid with them in the past.
“Ah this thing Dey pain! The Europeans and the colonizers split the continent with all these borders and shit! They’ve gone back to their countries and have left us to continue the work of hurting each other to ourselves!”
Reacting to YCee’s comments, AKA quoted one of the tweets and posted a photo of himself covering himself with Nigerian flag posing in front of Fela’s image:
He tweeted:
Are you talking about this guy? https://t.co/yL80gu5abY pic.twitter.com/pga6APk5ky

YCee responded by digging up and sharing screenshots of AKA’s series of tweets where he ranted about South Africa’s loss to Nigeria in the quarter-finals of 2019 African Cup of Nations.
In the tweets, Aka had ranted about South Africans always losing to Nigerians in ‘EVERYTHING’ and said the AFCON match loss left him heartbroken.
YCee noted that such tweets coming from a celebrity is capable of spreading hatred among his countrymen.
He tweeted:
I’m talking about this guy https://t.co/b3CkTpb5r6 pic.twitter.com/9yjPOm67iu
— ZAHEER! (@iam_YCee) September 3, 2019
While trying to justify his claims in the tweets, AKA tweeted:
South Africa and Nigeria is the continent’s BIGGEST RIVALRY … a SIBLING RIVALRY because we are brothers and sisters … I also hate losing to Australia for fucks sake. Let’s pull together as Africans and stop dividing ourselves. This whole narrative is stupid!!! https://t.co/fT4S4JpKO0
— AKA (@akaworldwide) September 3, 2019
YCee then tweeted:
Bro if you refuse to see the underlying implications of what you tweeted
There’s really no need for the back and forth
As public figures we should always recognize the strength our platforms carry! I have no agenda or narrative to push
I’m just deeply hurt and that’s that! https://t.co/E0kKdA3fVt— ZAHEER! (@iam_YCee) September 3, 2019
The Twitter war between the two rappers excited Nigerians on Twitter as they commended YCee for speaking up while other Nigerian artistes are trying to dodge the conversation.

YCEE isn’t saying don’t rant over losing a match but don’t include other aspects even saying “…we lose to Nigerians in everything.” You are a public figure for Christ’s sake.
Well, YCEE showed AKA that he isn’t so bright afterall just like majority of South Africans anyway.

Ycee just proved why he truly deserves to be called JAGABAN! ?
Man stood up for the whole country, while his fellow celebrities are kissing ass, in order not to lose popularity in SA.

Ps. If you’re not talking based on facts and figures, then you have no point, same way South Africans are pushing the narratives of Nigerians dealing drugs etc. without valid proof— DADDY THE BAÁLÈ (@Kingtanda) September 3, 2019

Ycee is the only celebrity allowed to speak at this point. The rest of y’all can shut the fuck up , or do give aways to promote your shit or go buy a bag or a shoe or something

Ycee is a brilliant man…
I love how he dragged AKA without hurling words at him but actually stating facts with adequate receipts as toppings
This is what I expected from other celebs like Kate Henshaw, toke makinwa and Dremo but they goofed

Aka said nothing about the Xenophobia attacks until Ycee called him out and then he only came to defend himself on how he loves Nigerians and we are brothers.
My dear, brothers kill brothers.
