Woman steals goat to pay for ailing son’s treatment in Osogbo, bags six months jail term
A Magistrate Court, sitting in Osogbo on Tuesday, sentenced to six months prison term a 30-year-old Sadiat Jimoh, who stole a goat.
Sadiat had pleaded guilty to the two-count bordering on stealing levelled against her.
She was said to have committed the offence on Sunday, January 5, 2020, at Agunbelewo Area of Osogbo.
Addressing the court, the prosecutor, Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that the accused stole a she-goat, valued N45,000, belonging to one Fausat Adegboga.
According to him, the offences committed contravened Section 516 and Section 390 Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun State, 2002.
The accused told the court that she committed the crime in an attempt to raise money for her ailing son’s treatment.
Counsel to the accused, Abimbola Ige, also urged the court to be lenient with her since she had admitted committing the crime.
In his judgement, Magistrate Opeyemi Badmus, sentenced the accused to a six-month jail term or an option of N15, 000 fine.
