Wolves deepens Chelsea woes with 2-1 victory

Published

Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea faced another setback in a 2-1 defeat against Wolves at Molineux, making for an unmerrier Christmas for the manager.

Mario Lemina’s header in the second half and a late goal by substitute Matt Doherty sealed the victory for the home side.

Christopher Nkunku’s premier league debut goal offered a glimmer of hope for Chelsea, but noit enough to stage a comeback.

Despite dominating the first half, Chelsea couldn’t convert their chances, with Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling missing opportunities.

The revamped 4-4-2 formation with Armando Broja also failed to capitalize on promising moments. Wolves capitalized on a mistake from Joao Gomes, leading to Lemina’s decisive goal in the 51st minute.

Chelsea’s second-half performance was marred by errors, and though Nkunku came close, Wolves held on for the win.

Doherty’s goal and Nkunku’s late header weren’t enough to salvage points for Chelsea, who now find themselves level on points with Wolves and slipping further away from European contention.

The season’s ongoing theme of missed opportunities continued for the Blues.
