WITH TEARS IN HER EYES! American actress, Taraji P Henson, receives Hollywood’s Walk of Fame star
American actress, Taraji P Henson, got emotional as she received her star on the Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
The award is usually administered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and is a popular tourist destination in Los Angeles.
With tears in her eyes, the famed actress accepted the accolade before she gave her speech.
The single mother of one, during her speech, dedicated the honour to her mother, son and her 94-year-old grandmother.
She said,
“I work so hard to make them proud.“
She said that she knew her grandmother was always praying for her and became emotional as she said,
“I know she never thought that she would live to see this.
“And grandma, I hope that you are so proud because this is your legacy.“
She also dived into her past films like Baby Boy and how she was able to extend her longevity in Hollywood in order to open doors for the next generation.
“I fight for roles that will break through glass ceilings so that these young women coming behind me, they won’t have the same narrative that we have,” she said.
“We can’t drop the torch now, ladies out there, anybody in the industry, but we also need our men. That’s why I love men, I protect them because we need each other. We can’t bash each other, we have to reach across the table and help each other.”
Henson’s debut role was in 2001 comedy-drama: Baby Boy with Tyrese Gibson and Snoop Dogg.
In 2016, she starred in Hidden Figures which earned three Oscar nominations.
It also won the Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture which she shared with Mahershala Ali, Janelle Monae, Octavia Spencer, and a host of others.
