The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that his administration will not permit car racing activities in residential communities across the nation’s capital, stressing the need to protect lives and maintain public safety.
Wike made the declaration while inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in the FCT. He was responding to concerns raised about the dangers posed by car racing to motorists and residents living in affected areas.
The minister explained that although no official complaint had been lodged with his office over the issue, the concerns raised would be investigated to ensure the safety and well-being of residents, according to the Channels TV..
“No formal complaint has been made, but now that we have heard from you, I will check the traffic section and let them understand that we will not allow that,” Wike said.
“If they want to carry out their car racing, they should know that there are designated areas for it, not where we have people’s residences.”
“I appeal to them to understand that their rights have limitations and life is more important. Be assured that we will do everything possible to ensure we will not allow car racing in residential areas, but on the highway I doubt we will stop it.”
Speaking on the infrastructure projects inspected, including the 13.125-kilometre Apo-Karshi Road and the 14-kilometre Bwari-Kubwa Road, the FCT minister expressed confidence that the projects would be completed as scheduled.
He also reaffirmed that the Apo-Karshi Road project remains on course for completion by December 2026, adding that his administration is committed to fulfilling its promises through projects aimed at improving the quality of life for residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
