The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, has said that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is at liberty to become a member of the ruling party if he so chooses.
Yilwatda made this known on Wednesday night during a media chat, where he emphasized that the APC does not coerce individuals into joining its ranks, maintaining that party membership is a matter of personal choice.
“If he wants to join the APC, he is free to do so. We don’t compel people to join APC. People willingly join APC,” he said.
Addressing speculations about political appointments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC chairman rejected suggestions that such roles are dependent on party affiliation.
He pointed out that several individuals currently serving in government had previously been critical of the president.
“There’s nowhere you will see that there was an agreement with us that you must join APC before you serve in our government.
“People that insulted Mr President, he appointed them. They are in our government. He didn’t ask them to join the APC,” he said.
Yilwatda further described the president’s leadership approach as inclusive, noting that even outspoken critics have been given opportunities to serve.
.“Those that insulted him, he welcomed them in broad daylight,” he added.
