The National Vice-Chairman, South-South, of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dan Orbih, has died at the age of 64.
The influential Edo State politician was reported to have died on Monday, August 31, 2026.
Orbih was a prominent political figure who played a significant role in consolidating the political influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, across the South-South region.
He was also instrumental in the political realignment that strengthened Wike’s position in Rivers State.
Orbih supervised the 2013 PDP congress, which altered the balance of power and shifted political influence away from former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, towards Wike.
The announcement of his death was contained in a statement issued by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih on behalf of the Orbih family.
The statement said Mr Orbih died on August 31, 2026.
It read, “In loving memory.
With profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the almighty God, the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih announce the passing of our beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, who passed away on Monday, 31 August 2026.
“He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Orbih; his children, Ms. Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr. Mildred Omonemi Orbih; his brothers and sisters; as well as other members of the extended family.
“At this difficult time, we ask family members, friends and well-wishers to remember the entire family in their prayers as we mourn this painful loss.
