Zonal Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-South, George Turnah, has denied reports that he has been expelled from the party, saying he remains loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Turnah, who also serves as the Caretaker Chairman of the PDP in Bayelsa State, asked party members and the public to ignore the reports. He was listed among eight persons said to have been expelled at the party’s 2025 convention in Ibadan over alleged anti-party activities.

The motion for their expulsion was moved by former PDP Vice Chairman (South), Olabode George, and seconded by Bauchi State Chairman, Samaila Burga.

But in a statement on Sunday, Turnah dismissed the reports as “frivolous and laughable.”

His statement, released by his Media Assistant, Kelvin Loveday Egbo, said the claim was false, calling it “a pitiful display of desperation from people he described as political opportunists and mischief-makers within the party.”

He said there had been no legitimate PDP National Convention since 2022, adding that the party’s constitution provides clear procedures for disciplinary actions.

The statement added, “This report falsely claims that he has been expelled from the People’s Democratic Party during a social gathering in Ibadan.”

It continued, “For clarity, Hon. George Turnah categorically states that this news is entirely fake and baseless.”

He went on to say it was “nothing more than a pitiful display of desperation from certain political opportunists and mischief-makers within the party,” adding that such claims could be dismissed as “good riddance to bad rubbish.”

Turnah said, “It should be noted that there has not been any legitimate PDP National Convention held anywhere in Nigeria since the last one conducted in 2022.”

He added that the PDP constitution “clearly and unambiguously outlines offences and the corresponding disciplinary procedures to be followed.”

The statement concluded that Turnah “remains a bonafide member and a duly elected official of the party,” and that his loyalty to Wike “remains steadfast and unshakeable.”
