Nigerians on Twitter have thrown their weight behind the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, to become Nigeria’s next president in 2023.

Some tweeps emphasized that they would like to see him succeed the incumbent president, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (retd) when his regime ‘which has seen a rise in insecurity, kidnappings, terrorism, as well as tensions due to ethnic clashes comes to an end.’

Obi, who is a former vice presidential candidate in the 2019 elections, recently slammed the federal government for negotiating with bandits who have been on a kidnapping spree in the northern part of the country lately.

He had declared at a book presentation held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State on Wednesday that Nigeria would not make any progress if bandits were considered above intellectuals.

“Prof. Okunna (the author), who we are celebrating today, I can tell you earns less than a political thug. Nigeria prefers paying bandits and dialoguing with them paying or meeting with resourceful and hard-working intellectuals,” he had stated.

Following the scathing remark, the popular microblogging site, Twitter went agog with a number of tweeps cheering Obi’s speech.

According to a user, @TosinOlugbenga, “I am in support of IGBO Presidency. Therefore I will knock on doors at 2 am for Peter Obi if he declares to run for Presidency. I don’t even need to meet him. Once he declares and becomes PDP flag bearer, I would start knocking on doors and preaching it in the markets.”

@Ubonid added, “…PETER OBI run for PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, we will support you 101%! I am volunteering myself and even a token of my resources to it cos’ you have proven it as GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE FOR 8YEARS! Ndi Igbo it is TIME!! GOD BLESS NIGERIA!!!”

Another user, @ikhanaib wrote, “If Peter Obi ever runs for President, I and my household will campaign and vote for him. He is the leader Nigeria needs at this stage in our lives.”

In @exploitsfemi027 opinion, “I voted KM in 2019. If he had 1 vote in Oyo state, it was mine. This time, I want Peter Obi. We have to be realistic. Moghalu’s time will come. But it’s probably not now.”

@obi_olowo, on the other hand, pleaded for caution saying, “The only fear I have with Peter Obi becoming president is that the north will fight really hard to frustrate, distract and derail his administration just the way they did to Jonathan.”

Another user, @Mr_kunlecole wasn’t swayed by Obi’s comment, “Funny people see Peter Obi as a solution, Governor of same Anambra way I dey pass steady that looks like a huge village from Niger Bridge down till you get to Obosi heading towards Orlu, yes he left power 7 years ago but if he did much it will still show.”

As at the time of filing in this report, there has been no official declaration for 2023 presidency form either Obi and other interested aspirants to become the African country’s number one citizen.
