Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has clarified why he has not openly declared support for Nigerian politicians.
Moghalu gave the explanation on Wednesday through a post on X while responding to a supporter of Obi who questioned why he had not publicly endorsed the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential aspirant in the same manner as renowned political economist, Prof. Pat Utomi.
In his response, the former presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the 2019 election stated that he withdrew completely from partisan politics in 2022, making it inappropriate for him to publicly support political candidates.
He also addressed concerns surrounding his recent meeting with the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, stressing that the engagement was strictly centred on governance issues and not linked to partisan political interests.
Moghalu said, “As you might know, I resigned COMPLETELY from partisan politics in Nigeria in November 2022. This was publicly announced.
“Consequently, I have been and remain engaged in professional activities that bar me from partisan political endorsements or involvement. I hope this helps. It is a matter of professional livelihood. Simple. I have always had a “second address”.
“As a citizen I have the right to vote for a candidate of my choice in an election.
“My meeting with @PNMbah was focused on governance, not on partisan politics.”
