Brock Lesnar had a strong reason to close out WWE SummerSlam 2026 (Night One), and reports suggest the decision to headline the event came from the veteran himself.
While many fans expected CM Punk and Cody Rhodes to compete in the final match of the night, WWE instead placed Lesnar and Oba Femi in the main-event position for Saturday’s pay-per-view show.
Speaking during a recent question-and-answer session, PWInsider’s Mike Johnson explained that Lesnar has traditionally preferred competing earlier on event cards so he can complete his appearance and leave the venue sooner.
However, this occasion was different because the event was held near Lesnar’s hometown of Minneapolis, allowing him to have a much shorter journey afterward. According to people familiar with the situation, Lesnar was believed to have personally pushed for the match to close the show.
The Hell in a Cell contest concluded with Lesnar embracing Femi and presenting him as a future face of WWE. Later, during the post-show press conference, Triple H praised Lesnar’s willingness to help elevate the next generation, highlighting how uncommon it is for a 49-year-old wrestling legend to step aside and allow another performer to shine.
Although it remains uncertain whether SummerSlam 2026 will be Lesnar’s final appearance at the event, his goal of making Oba Femi appear as a major WWE star on one of the company’s biggest stages was clearly achieved.
