Nigerian television drama series “Sands of Time” has secured seven awards within one week, earning recognition at ceremonies in Nigeria and Canada.
According to Nigerian Tribune, the Sands of Time awards haul began with four honours at the 2026 Nigerian Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards before the production added three international television awards from Canadian film festivals.
“Sands of Time: We Happy People” won Best Overall Drama Series at NEMCEA, while its producer, Stellamaris Duru, received the NTA Best Producer award.
Hydra Aneme was named Best Actor, while veteran Nollywood actress Chinyere Wilfred won Best Actress for her performance in the series.
Sands of Time awards cross borders
The series subsequently added three international recognitions to its growing collection.
It won Best Television Series (Africa) at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival and Best Television/Web Series at the Brampton International Nollywood Film Festival.
The programme also received the Best Television Series (Africa) prize at the International Comedy and Art Film Festival.
Producer Duru said the recognition reflected the team’s commitment to telling stories audiences can relate to.
“For us, Sands of Time is not just about making a television series; it is about telling stories that people can see themselves in and enjoy with their families,” she said.
Nigerian series gains international recognition
Duru said the awards also demonstrated the potential for Nigerian television productions to reach audiences outside the country.
She noted that the programme currently airs on multiple television stations, allowing it to reach viewers across different parts of Nigeria.
Duru said the international honours were encouraging but described the ability of the story to travel beyond Nigeria as an even bigger achievement.
The latest awards add to growing international recognition for Nigerian television and film productions at festivals outside the country.
