Timo Werner’s first-half goal gave Chelsea an important victory over West Ham United to keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive.

The Blues squad kept focus despite ongoing backlashes from the ill-fated European Super League, which they were part of, in a dramatic week in the world of football.

After enduring a torrid season in the Premier League, Werner buried a close-range shot from Ben Chilwell’s low cross on the 43rd minute to show Thomas Tuchel he could be vital for the Blues in upcoming encounters.

Werner’s winner was his first Premier League goal since mid-February and the German almost doubled the tally in the second half but failed to find the back of the net from a rebound.

The Hammers were then left fuming when Fabian Balbuena was controversially sent off when his studs caught Chilwell’s calf after following through with a clearance.

The win kept Chelsea fourth on the log with three points clear of fifth-placed West Ham and four ahead of sixth-placed Liverpool who slipped against Newcastle earlier today with five games remaining.
