Arewa Consultative Forum has said the North won’t be part of the agitation for the breakup of Nigeria as being canvassed by some separatists in the country.

The pan-Northern sociopolitical organisation forum also said it won’t ask for a separate Republic out of Nigeria.

The Indigenous People of Biafra and some Yoruba youths led by Sunday Igboho, had consistently agitated for Biafra and Oduduwa Republic respectively.

The ACF also tasked northerners to unite and fight against activities of kidnappers, bandits and other criminal elements ravaging the region.

The Forum stated these through its National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbe and the Secretary General, Alhaji Murtala Aliyu at a meeting of its National Executive Council which held in Kaduna on Wednesday.

The meeting later went into closed-door and journalists were asked to be excused.

Earlier in his remarks, Ogbe expressed concern over the insecurity in the region which he said, had become unbearable.

The former minister called on Northern to come together and unite in order to solve the challenges posed by insecurity in the region.

Ogbe said, “At this time other than before that the North is facing security challenges, we have to come together and solve our problems. Don’t lose faith, we shall overcome the challenges.

“What we want is peace, and an end to banditry and criminality. All we want is an improvement in the economy of our country for the betterment in the lives of our people generally, especially the North.”

On his part, the ACF’s scribe said the Forum would continue to work for a united Nigeria, adding that that is what the region stood for.

Aliyu said, “North will not ask for separation of the country. There are due processes of going about agitation. North will not ask for a separate Republic as it is being done in South East and in the West by IPOB and Sunday Igboho.

“We are going to work for a united Nigeria and that is what we stand for.

“They have raised the issues of resource control, division of the country and so on. The rapid response committee of ACF is to respond to issues affecting the Arewa.”
