WE CALL ON ALL TO BURN HIS PICTURE AND ABANDON HIM! Palestine FA chief tells fans to demonstrate against Lionel Messi

FC Barcelona have sent birthday greetings to Lionel Messi as the club captain turned 34 on Thursday, at a time when his future remains unresolved.

Palestinian Football Association chief, Jibril Rajoub, has urged fans to burn pictures of Argentina striker, Lionel Messi, and replicas of his shirt if he plays against Israel in Jerusalem next weekend.

Two-time world champions Argentina will play at Jerusalem’s Teddy Kollek Stadium on Saturday night in a World Cup warm-up match that has attracted huge interest among the Israeli fans, mainly because of Messi’s planned participation.

But the Palestinians are not happy that the match will be held in Jerusalem and Rajoub has accused Israel, ranked 98th in the FIFA standings, of using the encounter as a political tool.

He told supporters to target Messi – arguably the world’s best player – if the Barcelona star plays, Goal.com reports.

Rajoub told reporters on Sunday,

“He’s a big symbol so we are going to target him personally and we call on all to burn his picture and his shirt and to abandon him.

“We still hope that Messi will not come.”

Argentina’s clash against Israel comes a week before they begin their World Cup campaign against Iceland.
