Watch Messi’s goal nominated for UEFA Goal of the season, what a cheeky chip goal

Published

Barcelona star player, Leo Messi has been nominated for UEFA’s Goal of the Season award.

Messi is among the 25 finalists for the award that will be given in August at the gala for the Champions League group stages draw.

Also, Barcelona’s youth player Carles Aleñà was also nominated for the award.

The Argentine’s chip against AS Roma and the B team’s star’s fine solo effort against the same team in the UEFA Youth League are up for the top award.

Messi’s goal made it 2-0 in the 6-1 rout of AS Roma in the group stages of the Champions League. The no.10 finished in trademark fashion, with a cheeky chip over the keeper.

Aleñà, also against the Italian side but representing the Catalans in the UEFA Youth League, went on a mazy dribble before slotting into the corner in a 3-3 draw.

Also up for the prize are: Saúl Ñiguez (Atletico Madrid), Gonzalo Higuaín (Napoli), Stephan Lichtsteiner (Juventus), Juan Cuadrado (Juventus), Xherdan Shaquiri (Switzerland), Marek Hamsik (Slovakia), Camille Abily (Lyon) and futsal player Ricardinho (Portugal).

Users can vote for their favourite goal until 23 August on uefa.com.
