The 2025 Nigeria Professional Football League season will conclude this weekend with several clubs, including Warri Wolves FC, fighting to avoid relegation.
Warri Wolves are set to host Abia Warriors in Ozoro in a crucial fixture that will be played behind closed doors following directives from the league management.
Despite the absence of supporters at the venue, Chairman of the Delta Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to secure a positive result.
“The players and their coaches know that anything short of victory might not be good for us,” Oborevwori told The Guardian. “I believe in them, and our prayer is for them to get the result we need.”
In Port Harcourt, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has approved free access for fans attending Rivers United’s final league match of the season.
Rivers United will take on Katsina United in a decisive Matchday 38 encounter on Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt. The match is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 p.m.
Acting through the Ministry of Sports, Governor Fubara ordered that the stadium gates be opened to supporters across the state as Rivers United pursue what could become a historic league triumph.
To support fans traveling to the game, the state government also arranged free shuttle bus services from designated locations across Port Harcourt. Pickups will begin at 12:30 p.m., while buses are expected to depart for the stadium by 2:30 p.m.
The approved pickup points are U.S.T Convocation Arena, UNIPORT Market Square, Mile 3 by Ikoku Flyover, Mile 1 by Education Bus Stop, Sharks Stadium (two buses), Yakubu Gowon Stadium (two buses), Rumuomasi Market Junction, and Rumuola by Aba Roundabout.
Rivers United head into the final fixture with hopes of clinching the NPFL title. A victory against Katsina United, alongside a favourable outcome involving Ikorodu City in Lagos, would see the Port Harcourt club crowned champions of Nigeria.
