VIDEO: Okpebholo aide warns Davido to stay out of Edo

Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Apostle Kassy Chukwu, has warned Afrobeats star Davido against returning to the state for performances. The dispute between the singer and the governor has deepened.

According to Punch Newspapers, Chukwu made the remarks in a video shared on Thursday. In the video, he declared that Davido should not expect to perform in Edo State for the remainder of Okpebholo’s administration.

Aide declares Davido unwelcome

Chukwu accused the singer of disrespecting the governor and his family over comments made during the political disagreement. This disagreement followed the Osun State governorship election.

“You have been banned from coming to Edo State to perform. We don’t want to see you in Edo again,” he said.

The governor’s aide also claimed that some youths in the state were angry with Davido. He warned event organisers against inviting him to perform.

“Edo youths are angry. They said if they catch you again, nobody should bring Davido to come and perform in any place again in Edo State,” Chukwu said.

Chukwu issues stronger warning

In the video, Chukwu went further by warning Davido that he could face a hostile reception if he returned to the state.

He suggested that the singer could be confronted by angry youths. He made comments that appeared to threaten physical retaliation if Davido repeated some of his earlier remarks.

Chukwu also questioned Davido’s upbringing, accusing him of failing to show respect to elders. He insisted that the singer should be more careful when addressing senior public figures.

The comments have generated fresh concern online because Chukwu is an aide to the governor. However, there has been no separate official statement from the Edo State Government confirming that Davido has formally been barred from entering or performing in the state.

Osun election triggered dispute

The disagreement began during the build-up to the August 15 Osun State governorship election. This followed Okpebholo criticising Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle.

Davido responded by sharing what appeared to be Okpebholo’s WAEC result on his Instagram Story. He later defended the post during an interview.

The singer maintained that he had no reason to apologise. He argued that he had simply shown Osun residents the academic record of a governor who travelled to their state to campaign against his uncle.

Chukwu, however, rejected the move and alleged that the academic document circulated by Davido had been manipulated.

Davido’s camp fires back

The controversy has continued to grow, with Davido’s logistics manager, Israel DMW, reacting to the warning.

Israel rejected the suggestion that anyone could prevent the singer from visiting Edo State. He insisted that Davido could not be barred from the state by an individual.

The exchange has now transformed what began as a political disagreement during the Osun election campaign into a wider entertainment and public debate. This debate involves Davido, Okpebholo’s aides and supporters on both sides.

Davido has yet to publicly respond directly to Chukwu’s latest warning.
