VIDEO: Music legend, Dolly Parton, receives jab of COVID-19 vaccine
Country Music legend, Dolly Parton, has on Tuesday received a dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine which she helped fund.
The Coat of Many Colours donated $1m (£716,000) to Vanderbilt University medical centre in Nashville, Tennessee to help fund the Moderna vaccine.
The 75-year-old, while receiving the jab, did a cover of her song Jolene to fit the occasion: “Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I’m begging of you, please don’t hesitate. Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, because once you’re dead, then that’s a bit too late.”
She added, “I’m so excited. I’ve been waiting a while,” the singer told her four million followers in her video posted from the university. “I’m old enough to get it and I’m smart enough to get it.
“I’m trying to be funny now, but I’m dead serious about the vaccine. I think we all want to get back to normal, whatever that is. And that would be a great shot in the arm, wouldn’t it, if we could get back to that?”
Parton also told her 4m followers on Instagram that “I just wanted to encourage everybody because the sooner we get to feeling better, the sooner we are going to get back to being normal.”
“I just want to say to all of you cowards out there – don’t be such a chicken squat. Get out there and get your shot”
“I didn’t know you was going to be so clumsy, I hope you’re going to do better with my shot! That didn’t hurt,” she added after getting her first jab.
Other music icons including Sir Elton John, Sir Michael Caine, Academy Award-winning actress – Jane Fonda, 83, iconic actor – Arnold Schwarzenegger, 73, naturalist/broadcaster – Sir David Attenborough 94, Sir Tony Robinson, veteran actor, Sir Ian McKellen, 81, and Broadway singer/actress -Bette Midler, 75, have all gotten inoculated with a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
