Nigeria’s journalism community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Dotun Oladipo, publisher of The Eagle Online and a respected figure in the country’s media industry.
Oladipo died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56, reportedly after falling suddenly ill at his office.
News of his death was announced on Wednesday by TVC News via Instagram, sending shockwaves across Nigeria’s media community.
The veteran journalist had earlier gone about his day as usual. Reports said he began the morning with a gym session alongside his wife before proceeding to work, where he continued with his professional responsibilities.
He was also reportedly active on social media during the day, with his last known post said to have been made at about 2:50 p.m., only hours before his death. Those around him reportedly observed no indication of serious illness earlier in the day, underscoring the suddenness of his passing.
Oladipo was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited, the parent company of The Eagle Online.
He previously served as Politics Editor at The Punch, building a career that earned him recognition and respect within Nigeria’s journalism profession.
His death has prompted an outpouring of grief among colleagues, friends and members of the wider media community, who have continued to mourn the loss of an experienced journalist and media executive.
