Vardy sends Leicester into top-four after Sheffield win

Published

Leicester City return to the top-four on Sunday after defeating Sheffield in a three-goal thriller at Bramall Lane.

The win sends the FOxes into third place with 21 points, pushing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United out of the one with 19 points.

The visitors took the lead in the 24th minute through an unusual goal scorer, Ayoze Perez, who smashed home a Marc Albrighton blocked shot that fell straight to the feet of Perez.

Leicester’s lead was cut short two minutes after as Chris Wilder’s Sheffield levelled scored an equaliser in the 26th minute.

J. Lundstram’s well-taken corner kick found the head of Oli McBurnie in the penalty box after the striker rose above a couple of Leicester defenders to drive the header into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

It looked like both sides were going to share the spoils but a late minute goal from Jamie Vardy changed the narratives in favour of the away side.

James Maddison’s through ball found Vardy who outpaced his marker before curling a shot beyond Sheffield’s Ramsdale into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
