A black mother of four was fatally shot through a closed door following an altercation with a white neighbour who had allegedly repeatedly used “racial slurs” against her children in Florida.
According to local investigators, Ajike “AJ” Owens, an Ocala homeowner, had an ongoing argument with her neighbour about her kids trespassing on her property.
Police withheld the neighbour’s name, but CNN reported an incident report identifying her as a white lady in her 50s.
According to family and eyewitness accounts, Owens was shot from the opposite side on Friday when she knocked on the door of the neighbouring woman to retrieve an iPad that her kids had left behind.
According to the family, she was with her nine-year-old son when the incident took place.
Police added that after being brought to the hospital, Owens was later declared dead.
According to Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods, when authorities responded to a report about trespassing, they discovered a woman who had been shot.
Ben Crump, one of the lawyers for the family, described the murder as “appalling” but said that no arrests have been made in the case to date.
In an interview with MSNBC on Monday, Mr. Crump said, “It is asinine when they try to justify this unjustifiable killing of this mother of four who was killed in front of her children,”
