US model arrested for killing Nigerian boyfriend

Published

A 25-year-old American OnlyFans star, Courtney Clenney, has been for the murder of her Nigerian boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, at their Miami apartment earlier this year.

The influencer who is known as Courtney Tailor on social media was said to have stabbed 27-year-old Obumseli to death in April.

According to New York Post, the case was first dismissed for self-defence four months ago until it was reopened by the prosecutors.

The Herald reported that the pair had been living together for a few months at the apartment building where staff noted multiple domestic incidents and even tried to evict them.

Lawyer Larry Handfield, who represents Obumseli’s family, pushed police to reopen the investigation. He said that cops visited the couple on at least four occasions for domestic calls and noted Obumseli was never taken into custody or charged.

She was however arrested in Hawaii on Wednesday and is currently awaiting extradition to Florida where she’ll face a second-degree murder charge for Obumseli’s murder.

Clenney’s defence attorney, Frank Prieto, confirmed to report, adding that she had been at a rehab facility in Hawaii for substance abuse and post-traumatic disorder when she was picked up by police.

“I’m completely shocked, especially since we were cooperating with the investigation and offered to voluntarily surrender her if she were charged,” Prieto told the paper. “We look forward to clearing her name in court.”

Clenney, who has 2 million followers on Instagram, allegedly stabbed Obumseil in the chest on April 3 following a fight at their luxury apartment building in Miami’s ritzy Edgewater neighbourhood.

After policemen responded to calls at the couple’s Miami apartment where Tobechukwu was found bleeding, Miami Fire Rescue personnel took him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where a doctor pronounced him dead.

The family of Obumseli had been calling for justice after Courtney was not charged under the Baker Act, over considerations for her mental health.

In Florida, officers can commit a person to a mental health treatment centre for up to 72 hours by using the state’s Baker Act.

Clenney is expected to make a first appearance in local district court on Thursday, after which she will eventually be extradited to Florida.
