Super Eagles defender, Igoh Ogbu, has outlined what Nigeria must do to avoid defeat against Jamaica in the final of the 2026 Unity Cup.
Eric Chelle’s side booked their place in the final after defeating Zimbabwe at Charlton Athletic’s Valley Ground on Wednesday, with Femi Azeez netting twice in the semi-final encounter.
Jamaica, meanwhile, secured their own place in the final thanks to goals from Courtney Clarke and Kaheim Dixon, who helped the Reggae Boyz overcome India.
Ahead of Saturday’s showdown, Ogbu, who completed the full 90 minutes against Zimbabwe, cautioned his teammates against becoming overconfident as they prepare for the decisive encounter.
Speaking to Footy Africa about the semi-final victory, the Slavia Prague defender admitted the contest against Zimbabwe proved difficult, especially after the break.
“It was a very tough game, especially in the second half, but we thank God for the victory. It was not easy at all
“It went well in the end. The boys did well, they pushed hard and now we have to enjoy the win and focus on the next game.”
Looking ahead to the final against Jamaica, the former Lillestrom SK player stressed the importance of composure and concentration if Nigeria are to successfully defend their title.
“We have to keep our heads straight, keep working hard and continue doing our best because it is a privilege to play for Nigeria.
“Now that we are in the final, we understand what we need to do.
“We will recover and prepare well because the reason we came here is to win and retain the title,” Ogbu concluded.
The Unity Cup final against Jamaica will take place at Charlton’s Valley Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 2:30 PM.
