UNIPORT Deputy VC-designate Andrew Efemini dies two days after appointment

The University of Port Harcourt on Saturday announced the death of its Deputy Vice Chancellor-designate, Professor Andrew Efemini.
The development is coming two days his appointment was officially confirmed by UNIPORT management.
He was recently appointed as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) at the 459th Senate Meeting (Extra-ordinary) on Wednesday, July 28, 2021.
According to Daily Post, Efemini died on Saturday at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
His death was further confirmed in a statement issued by UNIPORT Public Relations Officer, Sam Kpenu.
The statement read in part, “the Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill, described Professor Efemini as a man of ideas, whose contributions had assisted the growth of the University.”
The Vice Chancellor made the remark when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.
Until his death, Efemini was a professor of Psychology of Development in the Department Psychology, Faculty of Humanities.
The cause of his death has remained undisclosed at the time of filing this report.
Sources, however, hinted that the late professor recently had a successful surgery in India.
