The University of Ilorin in Kwara State has strongly denounced the inclusion of eleven alleged fake professors in a list that circulated on various social media platforms, purportedly released by the National University Commission.

The university’s management issued a comprehensive statement titled “Purported fake professors, not known to UNILORIN – Management,” seeking to distance itself from the controversy.

The Director of Corporate Affairs at the University of Ilorin, Mr. Kunle Akogun, expressed the university’s stance in the statement released on Sunday.

He emphasized the university’s commitment to transparency and adherence to global best practices, especially in matters related to staff promotion.

The statement aimed to reassure stakeholders and the public of the institution’s unwavering dedication to maintaining high integrity.

According to the statement, “The attention of the management of the University of Ilorin has been drawn to a trending list of 100 fake professors in some universities in the country as purportedly uncovered by the National Universities Commission (NUC).”

It continued, “Even though the NUC has dissociated itself from the list that first surfaced in December 2019, we deem it expedient to categorically disown the 11 so-called professors listed against the University of Ilorin in the recently exhumed report.”

The university’s management clarified that none of the individuals listed as fake professors had any association with the University of Ilorin. “None of the persons on the list is on our University’s nominal roll, nor had any of them ever had any dealing with the University of Ilorin at any time or in any guise.”

In conclusion, the statement dismissed the circulating report as “another antic of purveyors of fake news and mischief-makers, and they should be rightly ignored.”
