Underage voters allegedly participate in Bauchi LG election

Underage voters allegedly participated in the local government election held in Bauchi State on Saturday.

Images and video footage showed children holding ballot papers, standing in queues, and waiting to cast their votes at several polling units according to Vanguard report.

Specifically, children were seen voting at Maciya Polling Unit, Senior Primary School Polling Unit, and Bunusai Polling Unit in Ningi West and Ningi East Wards.

In a surprising turn of events, Yunusa Muhammad, the councilorship candidate for the African Action Congress, has been declared the winner of the Papa Ward councilorship election in Bauchi State. The election took place on August 17, 2024.

According to the Returning Officer, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar, Yunusa Muhammad won with 1,156 votes, defeating Ashiru Mohammad Papa of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, who received 1,053 votes. The candidate from the All Progressive Congress, Idris Mohammad, came in third with 290 votes.

“I, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer of the Papa Ward councilorship election in Bauchi held on the 17th day of August, 2024. That Yunusa Muhammad of AAC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Abubakar announced at the collation centre in Darazo on Saturday.
