Former Delta State Governor and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party vice-presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, has revealed that he anticipated the party’s defeat in the 2023 presidential election even before the final results were announced.

Recall that former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, was the presidential flag bearer for the party in 2023.

Okowa disclosed this while speaking at a recent event in Delta State, his home state.

The former governor said his reading of the political atmosphere ahead of the election convinced him that the PDP would not emerge victorious.

According to him, he had also communicated his assessment to some Christian leaders before Nigerians went to the polls.

“I knew we would not win the election. And even when I met with the Christian leaders, I told them that APC will win, while PDP will come second and then Labour Party will come third,” he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) subsequently declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the presidential election. Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate, placed second, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party came third.
