Ukraine: German seeks help for Nigerian student displaced by Russian invasion

A German entrepreneur, Moritz Heininger, has won the hearts of many people on social media for housing a 27-year-old Nigerian student, Placid Chima Uche, displaced by Russian shelling in Ukraine.
Uche escaped Ukraine and found his way into Germany amid the harsh weather and discrimination at the border.
“As a single, black male without a Ukrainian passport, he was not allowed to cross the border and was not helped with food and shelter so he had to stay outside for over four days waiting, hoping to be allowed to enter Poland,” Heininger said while sharing Placid’s story on his LinkedIn page.
Beckoning on his “friends in Germany,” Heininger said that the Nigerian (Uche) needs help to secure accommodation and a job “to get back on his feet.”
The entrepreneur added that what Uche “had to endure to get to Berlin is beyond belief” when the Nigeria who studied in Ukraine fled after the first bombs dropped.
Heininger described Uche, 27, as “a very friendly guy” who is interested in staying in Germany and “luckily, the German government grants the right to stay and also to work in Germany also for non-Ukrainians who had to flee the country.”
Stating Uche’s resume, the German said he “has a bachelor’s degree in education & politics and speaks fluent English (no German).
“He has experience in phone sales/customer service jobs as well. But he is really willing to take on any challenge.”
Heininger revealed he “can guarantee you that he will work his ass off as he is determined to make it here in Germany.”
He however pleaded with his countrymen not to “discriminate based on the skin colour of the person in need.
“If you put down your name in one of the databases for offering accommodation and they call you, please just say yes. Don’t ask for the background/ ethnicity of the person in need.”
