The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two private security guards over the alleged killing of a traveller, Promise, in Ibafo, along the Lagos–Ibadan expressway.
The suspects, 55-year-old Isikilu Dauda and Rasaki Abbas, were arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred on Thursday, April 10, 2026.
In a Monday statement, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said detectives from the Ibafo Divisional Headquarters acted on a distress call and moved to the scene, where the victim was first rescued and rushed to the hospital.
“Detectives promptly mobilised to the scene, rescued the victim, and rushed him to the hospital for urgent medical attention,” the command said.
It added that while receiving treatment, the victim identified himself and narrated how he was attacked.
“While en route to the hospital, the victim identified himself and stated that he had been attacked and macheted by security guards after arriving in the area late the previous night,” the statement read.
Babaseyi confirmed that he was later pronounced dead on arrival by a medical doctor. Following his death, the police said the body was deposited for autopsy at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
Preliminary investigations revealed a trail of blood linking the scene directly to one of the suspects, leading to his arrest, while sustained efforts resulted in the apprehension of the second suspect.
The police added that efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing accomplices. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the incident and assured that all those involved would be brought to justice.
