Two injured as truck overturns on Third Mainland Bridge

Two people were injured on Sunday morning after a mini truck loaded with perishable goods overturned on the Third Mainland Bridge near the University of Lagos (Unilag) waterfront in Lagos.

Providing an update on X, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed that the affected vehicle had been recovered, although efforts to move its cargo were still ongoing.

“The vehicle involved in the earlier reported accident on the Third Mainland Bridge by Unilag waterfront inward the Island has been finally recovered.”

LASTMA added that the process of transferring the goods had not yet been completed.

“Trans loading of the goods is yet to be completed as we await another truck to complete the trans loading,” the agency stated.

Video footage released by LASTMA showed the mini truck lying on its side as officials and workers transferred the perishable items into another vehicle to ease traffic and clear the roadway.

In an earlier update, the traffic authority had outlined the incident and the response measures put in place to manage the situation.

“Video of a lone accident involving a loaded mini truck of perishable goods which fell on its side on Third Mainland Bridge by Unilag waterfront inward the Island with two casualties.”

According to the agency, recovery operations began immediately after the accident.

“Efforts are ongoing to transload the fallen goods into another vehicle while evacuation of the mini truck is expected to follow immediately. Traffic is under control by our personnel, with the assistance of the Police,” the statement said.
