Two friends, a male and female, from Ikot Osura Community in Ikot-Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State reportedly drowned in the community’s river along Aba-Ikot Ekpene road, last Saturday.

It was gathered that the two went to the river that faithful day to swim when the incident occurred.

A student of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osura, who on condition of anonymity said:

“We gathered that the two persons a male and female went to swim in the River along Aba-Ikot Ekpene road on Saturday, but after a few hours they were found dead on the shores of the River.

“When the news came to our school, some students rushed out of their classes to see for themselves and confirmed that the incident is true.”

The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Nnudam Frederick, who also confirmed the news said the police have already commenced investigation into the incident to unravel the cause of it.

He said ” I received the report from the Divisional Police’ Officer of Ikot-Ekpene Local Government Area, that a boy and a girl got drowned in Ikot- Osura River, along Ikot-Ekpene-Aba road, but I don’t know exactly wether it is the one you are talking about.

“Yes, I received that report and the case is still under investigation. We will unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident” he said.
