Twitter users slam EFCC for celebrating man who hawks water in corporate wears
A social media post by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) celebrating a Nigerian man who adorns corporate attire to hawk bottled water in Lagos has attracted criticisms among Twitter users.
EFCC had taken to its verified Twitter page on Monday to celebrate Michael Iloduba as its pick of the week for its ‘young and legit’.
The antigraft agency through its #YoungandLegit celebrates young Nigerians who are engaged in legitimate businesses to encourage others to shun fraudulent acts. It had celebrated several young Nigerians in the past.
Michael Iloduba, the corporate water seller was its pick for this pick, to celebrate him EFCC posted his picture and captioned:
“Meet Michael Iloduba
@AuthenticMiche3, the guy who dresses in corporate wears to sell bottle water called CORPORATE WATER. Not deterred by limitations around him, he is determined to make a difference.”
Well, many Nigerians on Twitter took exception to EFCC’s post, saying there is nothing to celebrate about what Michael does to earn a living.
Some argued that it is another way of celebrating, suggesting that in saner climes, the young man would be offered a good job to quit hawking.
@azpeters tweeted:
Even if I appreciate his determined spirit, this is a show of “Glorified Multi dimensional poverty”.
Does he have responsibilities?
Can he employ?
What happens if he’s sick?
What happens during raining season?
If he’s your brother, will you accept this?
Why no support him!!!— Opia Azuka (@azpeters) 16 December 2019

Are we moving forward or backwards. I won’t be shocked if this guy is a graduate. So EFCC actually wants the youths to start our life like this after spending millions for tertiary education. Can this actually pay all my bills and support my family.

I said it DT EFCC controlled by Northerners wants to reduce Southern youths to wheel barrow pushers nd shoe shiners level of Northern youths. FBI can’t interfere with citizens private lives until there’s a report of victimisation . EFCC is lawlessness and primitive. Resist it

He’s not making any difference, he has solved no problem or anything, he’s only rebranding poverty. If any Nigeria youth wear suit to wash car in a car wash tomorrow, he’s making a difference too?

After long nights of depressing study in the university and getting his degree coupled with the strenuous Service year he was forced by the bad system and bad governance into such a trade. truly, now your suffering continues……
