The Defence Headquarters has reported the elimination of 86 terrorists and the apprehension of 101 others in various operations over the past week.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major-General Edward Buba, provided updates on Thursday, highlighting the successes achieved by the troops.

According to Buba, the military focused on striking terrorists’ enclaves through air attacks and exerted superior power in areas where terrorists were hiding.

Buba stated, “In the last one week, the troops have focused on striking terrorists’ enclaves through air attacks and exerted significant superior power in areas where the terrorists were hibernating.”

“The operations resulted in the neutralization of 86 terrorists, with 101 of them arrested and 21 kidnapped persons rescued.”

The military efforts led to the recovery of a substantial amount of weapons and ammunition.

Buba detailed, “The troops also recovered 111 assorted weapons and 1,124 assorted ammunition.” Among the weapons seized were “65 AK47 rifles, one HK G3 gun, one G3 rifle, eight locally fabricated guns, and 15 Dane guns.”

Additionally, the troops recovered “two fabricated rifles, one locally made pistol, one English pistol, one pump-action gun, two auto pump-action guns, and two single-barrel guns.” Various rounds of ammunition and live cartridges were also confiscated.

The military actions were not confined to a specific region but covered different parts of the country.

In the North East, Operation Hadin Kai neutralized 20 terrorists, arrested four, and rescued 40 kidnapped persons.

Buba explained, “The air component conducted air interdiction on terrorists’ logistics base in Sambisa general area on January 5, killing several terrorists and destroying their logistics.”

In the North West, troops of Operations Hadarin Daji and Whirl Punch neutralized 69 terrorists, arrested 25, and rescued 63 hostages.

Air interdictions targeted terrorist kingpins’ enclaves, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of their structures.

Buba stated, “Another air interdiction at terrorist kingpin Hamisu Mopol’s enclave in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State killed several terrorists, and structures were destroyed.”

In the North Central, the defence spokesman said the troops of Operation Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke arrested 21 violent extremists and rescued 27 kidnapped persons.
