A tragic accident occurred in Hidalgo, Mexico, resulting in the death of a 29-year-old woman who was trying to take a selfie near a train track.
The incident happened while the Canadian Pacific Kansas City’s Final Spike Steam Tour train was passing through, a major attraction for locals.
According to harrowing footage, the woman approached the railway track to take a selfie as the train approached at full speed. Despite the train blasting its horn, she did not move far enough out of the way and was struck in the head.
Witnesses reported that she fell forward and went limp, clearly unconscious. Bystanders rushed to help her, but it was too late. First responders arrived and pronounced her dead at the scene. Her family was reportedly with her at the time.
CPKC confirmed that an investigation is underway and expressed their condolences. In a statement, they said, “We are deeply saddened by this loss of life and wish to express our condolences to the woman’s family and loved ones.”
The company emphasized the importance of safety around trains and tracks, stating, “For their own safety and that of the crews, all spectators looking at any train must always remain at least 10 meters back from the train and the tracks. Spectators must never stand on railway tracks, try to board rail equipment or climb on rail infrastructure.”
They added, “Always use caution around tracks and trains.” This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of not adhering to safety guidelines around trains.
