Tottenham mauling drives Everton into relegation battle

Published

Everton are at risk of being relegated from the Premier League after suffering a 5-0 thumping against Tottenham on Monday night.

Toffees’ goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, celebrated his 28th birthday with his 200th Premier League appearance this evening (starting all 200).

The Englishman became the fifth player to reach this milestone on his birthday after Noel Whelan, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Pablo Zabaleta and Victor Moses, according to OptaJoe.

However, the celebrations didn’t last long on the pitch as his teammate, Michael Keane, scored a 14th-minute own goal to give the visitors the lead.

Antonio Conte’s men doubled the lead after just three minutes through Son Heung-min, before Harry Kane (37′) made it 3-0 before the break.

Sergio Reguilón gave Conte’s men a four-goal cushion in the 46th minute before Kane completed his double (55′) to seal the 5-0 win for Conte’s men.

Kane has now netted 176 Premier League goals, with only five players managing more in the history of the competition (Shearer 260, Rooney 208, Andrew Cole 187, Agüero 184 and Lampard 177).

Meanwhile, Everton have failed to direct a single shot on target in two of their last three Premier League games, something they hadn’t done in any of their previous 80 games before this run.
