Jandor appeals tribunal’s judgement, ask Appeal Court to sack Sanwo-Olu
AbdulAzeez Adeniran, popularly known as Jandor and the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Lagos State, has taken legal action by filing an appeal against the decision of the election petition tribunal that upheld the victory of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu from the All Progressives Congress.
In a statement released on Friday by Gbenga Ogunleye, the Head of Media and Communications for Jandor4Governor Campaign Organization, Jandor has voiced his discontent with the “misapplication of laws evident in the tribunal’s judgment” and is now seeking the Court of Appeal’s intervention to overturn the ruling.
Jandor’s initial challenge focused on the eligibility of Sanwo-Olu and his running mate, Obafemi Hamzat, as victors in the March 18 gubernatorial election in Lagos.
He argued, among other points, that the tribunal made legal errors in its judgment, which led to the dismissal of his petition.
“By this action, I reaffirm my commitment to birth a breath of fresh air in governance in Lagos State by ensuring that the provisions of the constitution and the electoral laws as regards the election of a truly qualified governor are upheld,” he said
Governor Sanwo-Olu secured the election with 762,134 votes, emerging as the victor, while Jandor finished third with 62,449 votes.
The tribunal had dismissed Jandor’s petition, deeming it incompetent and lacking merit.
