Nigerian singer and dancer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has appealed to fans to refrain from comparing him with his twin brother, Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, or with any other artiste.
In a video message, the singer stated that he is fully committed to his solo music career and wants the focus to remain on his individual journey.
According to him, constant comparisons have become a distraction and take attention away from his work and personal growth as an artiste.
Mr P emphasized his desire to be recognized for his own achievements, stressing that he is determined to carve out his own path in the music industry and succeed on his own terms.
He said: “Stop comparing me with my brother or anyone else—enough of the comparisons. I want to do me. There is no one like me. I want to do my thing and chop my money.”
The singer also claimed that his brief reunion with Rudeboy had a negative impact on the momentum of his solo career.
Speaking during an interview on Cool FM Lagos, Mr P recalled experiencing significant growth on social media before the reunion. He alleged that his Instagram account was attracting approximately 100,000 new followers daily during that period.
He further asserted that, aside from Davido, he and Don Jazzy ranked among the most influential African personalities on social media at the time.
Reflecting on the aftermath of the reunion, Mr P said he noticed a sharp decline in the growth trajectory he had previously enjoyed, adding that the development altered the momentum of his solo brand.
“Before the reunion, I used to gain 100,000 followers every day. After Davido, it was Don Jazzy and me who were the biggest African celebrities on social media. But after the reunion, everything just dropped,” he added.
The artiste also pointed to his longevity in the entertainment industry, noting that he has remained relevant for nearly three decades. He maintained that his enduring presence and continued popularity deserve greater recognition.
“I have been in the game for nearly 30 years, and I am still trending to date. I deserve more respect,” he concluded.
