German Airport detain Arnold Schwarzenegger over unregistered luxury watch

Published

Arnold Schwarzenegger faced an unexpected hurdle in his journey as he was detained for several hours at Munich Airport on Wednesday for traveling with an unregistered luxury watch.

The actor and former governor of California, known for his philanthropic efforts, was reportedly on his way to a charity auction.

According to The Washington Post, customs officers at Munich Airport detained Schwarzenegger after he was stopped while traveling with the unregistered timepiece. The incident, which took place during his trip from Los Angeles, prompted a response from Schwarzenegger’s representative, Daniel Ketchell.

“None of the people I know and sat next to on our commercial flight filled out a declaration form, including Arnold — he got to customs, and they told him he was ‘randomly’ selected to be searched,” said Ketchell.

“During the search, he answered every single question the customs officer asked, so to say he didn’t declare anything is 100% false.”

Schwarzenegger was reportedly detained for three hours by customs officers. The actor was reportedly traveling with a watch that he owns, and he might auction it off at a charity event in Kitzbühel, Austria, on Thursday.

Allegedly, Schwarzenegger agreed to pre-pay potential taxes on the watch, leading officers to take him to a bank.

However, the bank was closed, and the ATM limit was insufficient. After his return, a new officer brought a working credit card machine.

Customs office spokesperson Thomas Meister told CNN that criminal tax proceedings have been initiated since Schwarzenegger’s imported watch needed registration.

The “Terminator” star is set to host a dinner and auction for environmental protection in Kitzbühel, with proceeds supporting the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative.

The organization hosts the annual Austrian World Summit climate conference.
