EPL: VAR denies Leicester twice as Brighton seal 2-1 win to go third
Brighton climbed up to the third position on the Premier League table after defeating Leicester City 2-1 at the Falmer Stadium.
The Seagulls took the lead ten minutes into the first half after Jannik Vestergaard handled the ball in the Leicester box.
Neal Maupay stepped up to the occasion and slotted in the goal, beating Kasper Schmeichel in the process.
Former Manchester United striker, Danny Wellbeck, got his name on the score sheet five minutes after the break with a power header to a Leandro Trossard as the hosts led 2-0.
Jamie Vardy reduced the deficit in the 61st minute with a close-range strike after an assist from Youri Tielemans.
Ademola Lookman thought he found an equaliser four minutes later but his goal was ruled out for offside against Harvey Barnes.
The Foxes had another potential equaliser by Wilfred Ndidi ruled out for offside by Barnes again.
Brighton claimed all three points to move third pending the outcome of the late kick-off between Tottenham and Chelsea.
Brendan Rodgers’ men, on the other hand, stay 13th on the log as they continued their sluggish start to the campaign with six points from five matches.
Brighton who registered their first league victory against Leicester since April 2014 in the Championship (winless in eight against the Foxes prior to today) and their first in the top-flight since April 1981, now have 12 points in five games.
