World record holder Tobi Amusan proved her class again as she won the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 Athletics Federation of Nigeria National Trials held at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos.
The 28-year-old star finished first in 12.57 seconds, claiming her fifth national title.
Amusan had a clean start and left no doubt as she raced ahead of her rivals. Adaobi Tabugbo came second with a time of 13.03 seconds, while Faith Osamuyi finished third in 13.36 seconds.
With this win, Amusan continues her build-up towards the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September.
In the men’s 400m race, Gafar Badmus took first place in 45.71 seconds. He was followed by Ezekiel Asuquo in 46.29 seconds and David Akhalu in 46.91 seconds.
In the women’s 400m final, there was drama as multiple-time champion Patience Okon-George was disqualified. Rising star and African U-20 champion Favour Onyah took the win in 52.69 seconds. Opeyemi Deborah Oke came second and Anita Enaruna placed third.
Another highlight of the day came in the women’s 100m race. African U-20 champion Chioma Nweke claimed her first senior national title, finishing in 11.27 seconds. She beat Olayinka Olajide, who clocked 11.39 seconds, and Iyanuoluwa Bada, who came third with 11.45 seconds.
