Nigerian Tobi Amusan lost her 100m world title on Thursday night in Budapest. Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, who claimed gold in 12.32 seconds.

In a post-race interview, Amusan vowed to return stronger next season despite losing. “It’s been a journey getting to this final, despite everything I’ve been through recently,” she told reporters. Amusan thanked her team, family, and fans for their unwavering support.

Danielle edged Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (12.44) and Kendra Harrison (12.46) for the win. Disappointingly, Amusan and 2019 champion Nia Ali finished sixth and last.

Tobi was recently cleared of a provisional doping suspension after missing three drug tests within 12 months. The charge carried a potential two-year ban despite no failed tests. Ultimately, the Disciplinary Tribunal ruled no violation had occurred.

Nobody likes to lose, but considering what I’ve overcome recently, I’m grateful to be here,” Amusan said. “This will only push me to work harder to regain my title next year.”

Though disappointed, Amusan remains determined and optimistic about reclaiming gold in 2024.
