President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday swore in Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
According to a State House statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the ceremony took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in the presence of senior government officials and family members of the newly appointed ministers.
The appointments followed the resignations of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue their political ambitions.
The statement noted that both nominees had earlier been cleared by the Senate before taking the oath of office.
Tegbe, an Ibadan born engineer and policy expert, brings more than 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major reform and transformation initiatives.
He has also worked with several organisations, including the Nigerian Communications Commission, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Shell, Huawei, General Electric, MTN and Odu’a Group.
Meanwhile, Enikanolaiye, a career diplomat from Kogi State, holds degrees in Political Science and International Law and Diplomacy. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and rose to the position of Director before becoming Permanent Secretary in 2016.
During his diplomatic career, he served in Nigeria’s missions in Ethiopia, Serbia, Canada, the United Kingdom and India. Before his appointment, he was Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff.
The appointments are expected to strengthen the administration’s efforts in the power and foreign affairs sectors.
