Tinubu denies bankrolling distribution of rice in North
All Progressives Congress National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has denied bankrolling the distribution of bags of rice in some northern states.
The former Lagos State governor’s denial comes in the wake of a viral video of images depicting the face of the APC leader on bags of rice.
Many commenters had suggested Tinubu bankrolled the distribution of rice in the northern states in pursuit of his supposed interest in ruling Nigeria come 2023,
However, Tinubu, in a statement by his Media Aide, Mr Tunde Rahman, on Friday, said he was not responsible for the initiative. He, however, commended the efforts of the various groups for their benevolence.
“We have seen the images being circulated of bags of rice depicting Asiwaju’s face being distributed across parts of the North,” Tinubu said. “I am not responsible for this initiative but l commend the efforts of the various volunteer groups responsible for this benign act of charity and love for one another, particularly in this Holy month of Ramadan”.
Recall the Tinubu’s generosity to northern, Katsina State, saw him donate the sum of N50 million to victims of the Katsina Central Market Fire. The donation was announced last month during a condolence visit to the Katsina State government and victims of the fire.
The move earned him criticism from some Nigerians who queried the former Lagos Governor for not extending his charity to victims of previous market disasters in the South-West.
Some went further to allege that his donation towards the victims of the Katsina market fire is an attempt to win the heart of the northers so as to fulfil his 2023 presidential ambition.
Recall that a pipeline explosion occurred in Abule-Egba on Sunday, January 17, 2021, rendering many homeless as trucks, business firms and houses were razed.
Another fire disaster occurred at Ijesha Market in Lagos affecting a total of 62 traders and 28 households while 14 shops were reportedly burnt and 48 others affected.
There was also an altercation between Hausa traders and Yoruba in February leading to the destruction of businesses, lives, and properties at the popular Shasa Market in Akinyele Local Government Area, Oyo State.
The Katsina market fire however happened on the 22nd of March, 2021, destroying hundreds of shops and businesses.
