A magistrate court in Kano has sentenced a popular TikTok content creator, Abubakar Usman Kilina, to one year in prison over a video that included cross-dressing and foul language.

The case was heard at Court No. 21, and the judgment was delivered by Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan. The court gave Kilina the option to pay a fine of ₦100,000 instead of serving the prison term. He was also ordered to pay ₦30,000 as compensation to the Kano State Film Censorship Board for what the court described as “wasting the agency’s time.”

The charges against Kilina came after the Kano State Film Censorship Board filed a complaint, accusing him of promoting indecent behavior, using offensive words, and featuring cross-dressers in one of his TikTok videos.

According to a report by Freedom Radio, the court found Kilina guilty and warned him strongly against repeating such behavior in future videos.

Magistrate Hadiza said Kilina’s actions went against public decency and noted that if he commits a similar offense again, the court would apply the full sentence without giving the option of a fine.
