Three suspects detained for defrauding Kogi residents with gov’s wife’s name
The State Police Command in Kogi has said that three suspects have been detained for allegedly using the name and office of the wife of the state governor, Sefinat Usman-Ododo, to defraud unsuspecting residents.
The spokesman of the command, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, said the suspects (names withheld) were in the custody of the Police Quick Response Unit.
The police spokesman explained that the suspects allegedly printed forms and sold it to members of the public for enrolment into an empowerment programme that did not exist.
The suspects, he said, printed the forms with the name: Kogi State Cooperative Federation of Nigeria.
The Police Public Relations Officer said the suspects reportedly deceived their victims that the said cooperative was an empowerment platform from the office of the First Lady.
“The suspects were nabbed in Lokoja on Tuesday, when an undercover agent approached them and bought the form
“The matter is under investigation and once concluded we shall prosecute them accordingly,” he said.
