No fewer than three students of the Ebonyi State University (EBSU) have allegedly died after they suffocated while attempting to write a General exam in a crowded hall.

This incident happened on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

Footage shared online show hundreds of students struggling to get a space in the hall for the exam.

During the struggle, eight students reportedly fainted, some got injured, and some suffocated to death.

Footage shows students rushing unconscious students out to the open space so they can get air.

Below is a video and  Twitter reactions from students and videos of the incident.

According to @olivedynamite, although this tragic incident happened they might likely deny it never did.

According to @OEvans2015;

Why shld a university be writing GST exams in this 21st century? Something you can simply Google on phone and record the answers

Meanwhile, another Twitter user, @samsonabanni who seemed not to agree with @olivedynamite’s claims said that what happened was as a result of poor planning but he is glad that no life was lost.

In his words;

What happened today show poor planning. It’s regrettable. I am happy that we lost no one. The SUG is doing everything to prevent a repeat of this. Let everystat calm, this will end well

Another Twitter user, @emeka_ezra upon seeing @samsonabanni’s post implored him to change his narrative as videos which emerged online show that there were casualties;

@emeka_ezra wrote;
My president. I implore you to change this narrative, I’ve seen a lot of videos online and various figures of casualties. One said 15 people fainted and one died, then this and so many others. It’ll be good if your kind office addresses this spread of fear and rumors. Again…

I also beg your kind office to look into the matter. Like you said, it’s mainly due to poor planning and probably scheduling of the exams, we’ve been writing CBT-based GST for some years now and no casualties; why did this happen now? However, if CBT is not convenient, can we opt

for paper and pencil based tests as we used to have it in the past?
