There is no reason Wole Soyinka shouldn’t have been given a GCON – Ali Baba
Ace stand-up comedian and actor, Ali Baba, has said that Professor Wole Soyinka, is more appreciated in the international community than his country.
Ali Baba said the 84-year-old Nobel laureate deserves to be given a national honour like the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger but was denied because of his refusal to associate with a political class.
The comedian further said Nigerian talents are not recognized, developed or protected because the powers that be are more interested in getting into exalted positions.
Read his post;
“International Committee recognized this man before we did. You know why? Because we don’t recognize, develop and protect our talents here in Nigeria.
“We wait till they go overseas and start doing great things, then we start inviting them for national assignment. No be only assignment. Na homework. Even after the Nobel price, there is no reason he should have been given a GCON… but nooooo.
“Ordinary writer? Teacher laaaaasaaan. But if he were a support of PDP, APC, with better financial support during elections… na one time!!
“Asa had to leave Nigeria… for we to see that there was fayaaaaa on the mountain, and nobody was on the run. Except running for office.”
